I was grocery shopping the other day and stumbled across Caramel Vanilla Marshmallows.
These stopped me in my tracks. Tawny LOVES caramel. I had to buy them and make something cool. Caramel Rice Crispy Treats! Yay!! Everyone will LOVE those!
I brought them home and brought the bag to Tawny's room to show her. I was expecting wide-eyed excitement at my find. But what did I get? The completely nonplussed reaction of a 16 year old! So I told her the reaction I expected. We practiced a few times. Then I showed her again. Yay! She was as excited as I was to find them! (hey... just let me believe it ok??)
So then I asked everyone what they thought I was going to do with them. They all said S'mores... even my mom when I was talking to her on the phone. They all thought Rice Crispy Treats were a better idea... but they all guessed S'mores. Weird...
Caramel Rice Crispy Treats
1 bag Caramel Vanilla Marshmallows (10 oz bag)
6 cups of crisp rice cereal
3 TBLS butter
Melt butter in a large pot.
Over low heat, melt Caramel Vanilla Marshmallows in butter.
Remove from heat and stir in crisp rice cereal.
Press into a greased 13 x 9 pan.
Cool, cut and enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is all you need.
Melt butter in a large pot (obviously pre-LEDs above stove!)
Melt Caramel Vanilla Marshmallows into butter.
Now remove from stove and stir in crisp rice cereal.
Spray 13x9 pan with cooking spray and pour cereal mixture into it.
Spread it around.
It's easier to press it into the pan with your hand.
Cool... cut... and enjoy!!
These were good.... but I think we all agreed that we like them better with just plain marshmallows!
I have one more bag... maybe I'll make S'mores!
I dont think Ive ever seen that flavor marshmallow.Rice Krispie treatsar well loved by my kids, but they atuallyprefer the boxed premade, darnit! Is that nonplussed reaction what I have to look forward to in 5 years? Oh boy!
I tried making RC treats with the spring mixed bag once (like rabbits and some other shape)and the kids hated them. The flavor was too sweet. I love caramel though. Hmmmm. I haven't seen that flavor at our store.
Spryte, I love RC squares and they are one of the 1st things I blogged about!
Here's to RC squares, to you and your blog!
Vanilla and caramel marshmallows? Wow! That sounds great. I'll have to go look at the gourmet store and see if they have any. That looks fabulous!
These do sound so sweet...but hey, I'd give 'em at least one try :) Now s'mores....
Oh my word, bestill my heart these are just yummy. I never thought of using flavored marshmallows...now I will.
Using gluten free Krispies cereal - this is a great variation on a favorite easy gluten free dessert for those with Celiac. I will have to look for this flavor in our store. As a note, I usually add M&M's to the RC Treats, especially if there are special colored ones for certain holidays (like red and pink for Valentines's).
Caramel rice crispy treats sound good!
My son loves Rice Krispy Treats. I think these would go over big. He is 9 so he will still get excited. Trust me, I know what a 16 year old is like....Whew!!!!! Went through that twice and will go through it again in a number of years!!!
Awesome! I've never seen those marshmallows before, I'll have to keep my eye out for them.
Rice Krispies treats are one of my husband's favorites and I haven't made them in a long while. I think it's about time . . .
I bought these marshmallows the other day at Target in the Easter section. Thought they might make yummy rice crispy treats. Just looking to see if anyone else had done so and found this blog! Can't wait to make them tonight and try them!
girli... Tawny broke into the other bag... so there might not be any left for S'mores!
Flavors are fun Cathy!
Connie... I've never stirred in candies... but I cut them into heart shapes and dipped them in chocolate or white chocolate and sprinkled them with valentine's sprinkles. Those were fun!
They were pretty good Kevin!
Yup... I bet 9 will still get excited Debbie!
